Today was a different kinds of adventure. Today I went to Calgary Expo. Or Comic Con. Yep. I channelled my inner nerd, and went with Dana and a good friend from college, Faye. I experienced things, and saw things and was given a glimpse into another world. It was so. Much. Fun! I haven't seen that much cool stuff to buy and see ever. We were early. There are a series of lineups that one must endure before access is granted. First, the 'exchange your ticket for a wristband' lineup in the Agrium. Then, choose an entrance and get in that line. Wait. In the wind and chill of the morning. It opened at noon and it wasn't very warm yet. We had a good parking spot and decided instead to wait in the car and watch what the lineup was doing. It was also wind-free in there. I am not in many of the photos, but I will share photos of my husband meeting Cosplayers and other characters. Do you want to know what a world without judgement feels like? Go to a convention like this. There are people of all shapes and sizes and ages that are dressed up. Not just dressed up: in costume. Some of them are all blue. One man was wearing an orange helmet, pink shirt and blue shorts. All day we wondered who he was dressed up like. Then, following Geek Speed Dating, we found out. COMMANDER KEEN! All day we had no idea! I saw Gandalf, Storm Troopers, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Dr. Who in the Tardis. I don't know anything about Dr. Who, but I knew enough to take a picture of this kid. Predators. Sailor Moon. The guy in the red cape with the blue arrow on his head in Tenzen from The Legend of Korra. And Spiderman. Lots of them. Not many Batmen, but a few. Hawkeye. Black Widow. The list goes on. Everyone is there to enjoy it. Most of the characters will stop and let you take photos with them if you ask. It's why they're there! (I'm sorry the photos are sideways. I thought I had fixed this. Hopefully you're reading this on your phone; turn off your screen rotation and it'll be easy to see.)
It was a fantastic adventure! One I will take again, too! The energy in the room was one of anticipation and excitement and elation. Everyone was having a good time. Next year will be even better now that I know what to expect!! Now, on a fitness note. I walked ALL DAY.

So, this post is late. It's been a busy week and I have felt uninspired. Our unusually pleasant spring (which is, surprisingly, spring-like) has continued. The warm weather has prompted me to get outside and get moving -- mostly on bike rides with greta-girl. I am loving the double-tandem bike thingy! I am longing to stand on top of a mountain again, but was reminded that the journey (aka: the rest of life; reality) is more about getting to those mountaintops. The precious moments at bedtime that I share with my kids, the cleaning, the bill-paying, laundry... All the small, mundane tasks that make up my life, are part of what make those mountaintop experiences so wonderful and enriching. "Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while your climbing it" -- Andy Rooney While, I think that it may be stretch to say that *all* of the growth happens while you're climbing it, the principle is the same. I needed this reminder. So, instead of spending the weekend in the mountains, I will enjoy it carting my kids around, visiting with friends, doing housework and maybe even getting another bike ride or two in. Happy weekend, everyone. Hopefully, I'll see you on the trails... Paved or otherwise :) ~S~ Oh- and before I forget- we are nearing the end of our squat challenge. Is there anyone out there who is still squatting? Comment below! I sure am and I am looking forward to next month's challenge. Stay tuned- it involves a giveaway! :) I'm really loving Thursdays. First reason: it is a quiet day following the busy start to my week. Second: the gym. I happened to be in the right place at the right time and won a 10 pass! Here is a glimpse of my Thursday afternoons: It looks pretty intense, doesn't it? I wish I could capture the intensity of the BOSU core workouts, but in the midst of those I have no ability to hold a camera. I'm trying too hard to stay upright and look cool at the same time. By the way, how are your squats coming along? I'm finding them tough right now, but I feel amazing when they're done! Are any if you seeing results? Strength? Definition?
We're working on our next challenge, starting in 2 weeks. You can be entered in a draw, for a currently very mysterious prize, after you successfully complete the challenge! Stay tuned |
AuthorSarah and Cory have a passion for hiking and being out in nature. There is no feeling quite the same as standing on the top of a mountain, sitting by a hidden lake, the jelly legs at the bottom of a steep descent, the sun on your face or the wind in your hair. Even our children have come to love it! Archives
