Today was a different kinds of adventure. Today I went to Calgary Expo. Or Comic Con. Yep. I channelled my inner nerd, and went with Dana and a good friend from college, Faye. I experienced things, and saw things and was given a glimpse into another world. It was so. Much. Fun! I haven't seen that much cool stuff to buy and see ever. We were early. There are a series of lineups that one must endure before access is granted. First, the 'exchange your ticket for a wristband' lineup in the Agrium. Then, choose an entrance and get in that line. Wait. In the wind and chill of the morning. It opened at noon and it wasn't very warm yet. We had a good parking spot and decided instead to wait in the car and watch what the lineup was doing. It was also wind-free in there. I am not in many of the photos, but I will share photos of my husband meeting Cosplayers and other characters. Do you want to know what a world without judgement feels like? Go to a convention like this. There are people of all shapes and sizes and ages that are dressed up. Not just dressed up: in costume. Some of them are all blue. One man was wearing an orange helmet, pink shirt and blue shorts. All day we wondered who he was dressed up like. Then, following Geek Speed Dating, we found out. COMMANDER KEEN! All day we had no idea! I saw Gandalf, Storm Troopers, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Dr. Who in the Tardis. I don't know anything about Dr. Who, but I knew enough to take a picture of this kid. Predators. Sailor Moon. The guy in the red cape with the blue arrow on his head in Tenzen from The Legend of Korra. And Spiderman. Lots of them. Not many Batmen, but a few. Hawkeye. Black Widow. The list goes on. Everyone is there to enjoy it. Most of the characters will stop and let you take photos with them if you ask. It's why they're there! (I'm sorry the photos are sideways. I thought I had fixed this. Hopefully you're reading this on your phone; turn off your screen rotation and it'll be easy to see.)
It was a fantastic adventure! One I will take again, too! The energy in the room was one of anticipation and excitement and elation. Everyone was having a good time. Next year will be even better now that I know what to expect!! Now, on a fitness note. I walked ALL DAY.

that's great -- glad you had a great time... and got to walk all day! :) I hope you're ready for an outdoor adventure next week. I promise it will have all of the enthusiasm and non-judgement of a comic convention! :)

AuthorSarah and Cory have a passion for hiking and being out in nature. There is no feeling quite the same as standing on the top of a mountain, sitting by a hidden lake, the jelly legs at the bottom of a steep descent, the sun on your face or the wind in your hair. Even our children have come to love it! Archives
